Email Preferences

From the "Tools" → "Preferences" menu in MRSware, the User can access the Email Preferences for the local computer. There are three screens of options that the User can change to personalize their e-mail experience in MRSware.

E-Mail Defaults

The Defaults page contains the most basic elements of the Mailbox and how New Emails are started.

Default Format: There are three email formats to choose from for new e-mails. Select the option that fits your needs. Remember that no matter what you set here, Reply and Forward will always be in the format the message was received in.

Default Mailbox: Select the Mailbox that should show first in the E-mail Panel. This will also be the Mailbox that is selected to send from when a New Mail message is created. This is typically set to the User's primary e-mail address, though if this person is a customer service agent, for example, they might have their default mailbox set as the "support" mailbox, so that new messages are sent from support.

POP3 vs. IMAP

10/26/2009

POP3 and IMAP are both ways to download e-mail messages from MRSware to mobile phones, 3rd-party e-mail programs, and all sorts of Internet enabled devices. While they both achieve the same purpose -- let the User access their e-mail wherever is most convenient -- they do so in a different way. The primary difference is that POP3 is simple and available on almost every device, while IMAP is more complex but can interact bi-directionally with the server.

To help sort out the difference, and help you make a decision on which best fits your needs, here is a table summarizing some of the most common feature differences that you may see:

Feature
Download messages from Inbox

Download messages from any folder in MRSware

Upload Outbox to server for sending

Synchronize folders on client to folders in MRSware (for example, Drafts created on the device show in the Drafts folder in MRSware)

Show Sent Items from client in MRSware’s Sent Items folder

Mark messages as Read in MRSware when Read on client

Delete messages from MRSware when Deleted on client

Deleted Items are placed in the Deleted Items folder in MRSware

Support multiple clients at the same time (for example, both Outlook and Blackberry can download messages at the same time)

Available from almost all cell phones and Internet devices

Available from most smartphones, PDAs, and desktop software

In most cases you would choose IMAP over POP3, if it is available. You might not choose IMAP in several cases, such as when multiple people access a single mailbox and it would be undesirable to mark messages as read all the time.

Availability

POP3 and IMAP is available to subscribers of the Plus Package.

Searching in Tables / Listings

The Search Columns field appears at the top of most tables in the various MRSware screens.  Type in the value you are looking for and press enter to filter the table to show only rows that contain that value.  The search is performed on all columns in the table, so a value searched for could appear anywhere in the row.
