What we do is take an invoice and manually split the sales and commission in 1/2, so that each salesman will get his 50%. Is there a way I can go into the customer and check that the % has been given to each salesman correctly - as it is done manually there is always room for error so I have to double check these.
Answer: There are a number of ways to do this type of entry checking. Here are a couple that seem to work well:
1) When you enter the split in Invoice Entry, mark the invoice number with an identifier that easy to find later. For example, put a -splitA and -splitB at the end of the invoice numbers. At the end of the month when you want to review the split invoices/customers, use the "Search" → "Invoices" menu and enter *-split* as the invoice number to look for, and your desired invoice date range. The result is all of your invoices that were split; you can then sort, filter, and review the invoice entries for accuracy.
2) The Customer Sales by Rep report has the ability to pull up customers by assigned Category. Assign a category, like split customer, to the companies that have a split. You can then run the Customer Sales by Rep report for the split customer category and review the entries made for those customers and your desired date range.
I generally recommend option 1 since it is easier to sort and see what you want to see. You can also make any corrections while you are right in Invoice Entry, rather than running the report and then going to Invoice Entry if you do find a mistake. However, you can certainly do both since the 2nd option only requires a one-time setup.
