Screen Capture,  PrintScreen on iOS: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

4/19/2012

To capture what is currently being displayed on the screen of an iOS device, commonly referred to as a "screenshot", hold down the power button and press the application button.  The screen will turn momentarily white and the camera sound will play.

The screenshots are saved to the Photos directory.  From there you can review them, upload them to your computer, or email them to yourself or others.

Online PDF Editor, PDFescape (free)

Sometimes you find that you would like to fill in a PDF form, or just make a simple edit to a PDF file for which you don't have the original document.

A new online web site offers just that ability:

http://www.pdfescape.com/

I used this the other day to fill in a PDF form, so that I could e-mail it back to the sender.  The other option would have been to print, fill in by hand, scan and e-mail/fax.  The ability to skip the printer and the scanner makes things a lot easier for me, and for anyone that is on the road.

How to Set Up and Remember Stronger Passwords

4/5/2012

Years ago I read an article by Gina Trapani, of Lifehacker.com, where she discussed a better way to set up high-security passwords and how to remember them.  The idea is to create a password that is nearly impossible to crack, but relatively easy to remember and re-create if forgotten.

First, the Big Do:

Do write down your passwords and put them in a secure place such as a safe deposit box. If you are injured or die, your family will be able to access your web site accounts.

Here are 3 steps to creating stronger passwords:

1. Set up a "core" password that is memorable to you. Use a nondictionary word with at least eight characters, combining letters and numbers, such as your uncle's initials and your wedding anniversary date. For example: your favorite uncle's initials are AS and your anniversary is June 20 - your "core" password would be AS0620.
