Pandemic, flatten the curve, essential business, social distancing, Zooming, Zoom-bombing, WFH, doom-scrolling, - these are just a few of the new slang and vocabulary terms that are infecting our lives along with COVID19. The normalcy of hanging around the water cooler to catch up on the latest happenings, stopping by a co-workers desk to show them the latest figures, taking a customer or prospect to lunch, traveling to a conference is now on-hold. In just a few short months CHANGE has become the new normal. We're all having to learn new ways of living and working and continually adjusting to the next wave of CHANGE.
Businesses are starting to reopen and along with this CHANGE we're learning new ways to interact with business associates, teammates, co-workers, friends, and even family. Face masks are required and social distancing is creating challenges inside and outdoors. All of these CHANGES have increased our reliance on technology. We're now working from home and holding virtual meetings for just about everything.

And working remotely has it's own set of challenges. According to a recent study done by Smartsheet in the U.K., Millennials and Gen Zs are having a hard time since they've made the CHANGE to working from home. They find they're not as productive, they're having a difficult time staying organized, and they're having a harder time communicating with their co-workers. In addition, these younger workers aren't sure how to get or give status updates and often feel left out of the loop. Not surprisingly, Boomers are missing face-to-face time with their co-workers, but this study showed that even though these generations are native technology users they also miss their face-to-face interactions.
With the constant CHANGE comes a new responsibility for business leaders, managers, and supervisors. They have to find new ways to support their remote workers with more training, more coaching, more frequent updates on projects, more communication on business restrictions, and guidelines on how to interact with prospects, customers, and other business colleagues.
It's a new world out there and we will learn to adjust and adapt to the new normal - CHANGE.
