iOS 13 Mail app Issue Downloading Email (resolved in iOS 14)

9/23/2019

iOS update to version 13 has been released.  It has come to our attention that a bug was introduced in their update that is causing their Mail app on the iPhone to not be able to download emails from Users' Mailboxes.  ZDNet confirms accounts by some users experiencing this issue.

The next expected update to iOS version 13.2 is scheduled to be released on 9/24/2019.  For those users that are experiencing this issue, there are a couple of options that work to replace the built-in iOS Mail app:
  • webmail.eyond.net
Our webmail site is already set up and ready for use.  Just open Safari on your mobile device, enter the URL, and login with your Email Address and Mailbox Password (the same you use on your phone).

Users can also add a Shortcut to the iPhone Home page for the site, and/or Bookmark it for easy reference.

  • Use another Email App, such as Outlook for iOS
Outlook on iOS has been tested and works well to connect to users' MRSware Mailboxes.  Make sure to select "use custom settings" and "IMAP" when adding your account.  The settings are the same you used with the iOS Mail app.

Hopefully, the next iOS update resolves these initial update issues, but if not and in any case, you do have options.  And all of these options can be setup and used interchangeably, so that you always have access to your email no matter what one app might do or errors an update might cause.

I just got word from someone else with the same issue, also confirming that 13.1 didn't fix it.

Apple did list the expected fix to be part of their 13.1 release:

• Addresses issues in Mail that could cause incorrect download counts, missing senders and subjects, difficulty selecting or flagging threads, duplicate notifications or overlapping fields
• Fixes an issue in Mail that may prevent background downloading of email messages

However, now I see no reference to those fixes on the current 13.1 release list. I assume it didn't work and they are going to try again on 13.2, but I don't see a release date listed for 13.2 yet.

I can only recommend that you use another email app until they get their fixed.

Apple released iOS 13.1.3 yesterday. While there were some more fixes to the Mail app, they have not solved everything yet. We are still expecting the future 13.2 update to resolve the bulk of the remaining iOS 13 issues, but the release date for this has not been published.

At this point, the main issue users are experiencing is that messages are not downloading in a timely or consistent manner.

While we wait for more updates, and in addition to the options listed above, we have also tested the Gmail app and found it to work quite well.

Contact us if you have an iOS 13 device that is exhibiting issues. We will make sure you get notified of additional information as it becomes available.

Apple's iOS 14 update has been released, with fixes for their Apple Mail app. This update resolves issues connecting to mail servers and downloading emails to the device.

Users that prefer to use Apple's Mail app can now continue to do so; otherwise, any of the other mail apps, such as Outlook or Gmail, will continue to work as well.
